First Kill is an incredible take on a classic Shakespearean Legend (Romeo and Juliet) with lesbians and you all should watch it!

Romeo and Juliet, who doesn’t know the story of them? The classic star-cross lovers from William Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’
First Kill based on the novel by V. E Schwab (released June 10th 2022) is a very incredible take on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet, a story of two teenage girls who are forbidden from being together, falling in love despite all odds against them.
This story follows two teenage girls. Calliope “Cal” Burns- a human girl born and raised to kill monsters since she was born. And Juliette Fairmont. A Vampire who is unkillable and apart of a bloodline that are born Vampires, believed to have existed since Eden.
Both Juliette and Calliope have a task at making their first kill. Ironically enough, their first kill is each other. Things change quickly for the two of them as they are supposed to hate each other due to their families hating each other since before they were even born (much like the Capulet's and Montague's in Shakespeare!) but upon meeting, end up falling in love with each other, forming a secret but forbidden romance that can only end in tragedy (it does not end in a death trope, thank God for that! but it does end in a way that breaks my heart)
This show is wonderful and a very interesting spin on classic vampire stories with a very interesting lore. I absolutely love how it has an interracial couple with a black lesbian lead and two lesbian characters. This show is refreshing, and while some may say it’s a “tired take”, I personally think we need more like this. I do truly hope we get a season 2.
