Legacies season 3 premiered last night at 9/8 central on the CW. The title was called “We’re not worthy.”

The episode begins with Alaric holding an assembly and talks about how they’re working on being a community again. Alyssa Chang, interrupts Alaric’s speech by saying, “Does this ‘community’ include your daughter, who murdered me?” The students around Josie and Lizzie start muttering in agreement, to which Alaric tells them that Josie’s back to normal. Alyssa points out that it’s thanks to Hope that Josie’s back to normal, and asks why Hope isn’t there as well when everyone else was required to attend the assembly early in the morning to talk about being a community. Alaric lies to the students because he never told anyone that Hope’s not waking up and is in a deep, magical coma(which was dumb on his part) and says Hope’s grieving over Landon’s death. The only person who knows Hope won’t wake up is Rafael.

Alaric sends the students off to have a field day, with MG in charge. Things appear to go smoothly until it’s time to choose teams for the games. Alyssa, still has a grudge being held over Josie (she has a right to be angry, but personally, she was going too far for some cases) Alyssa basically turns everyone against Josie and tries to convince them to choose her for captain. that is until Lizzie steps in. Lizzie persuades them to pick her as captain by reverting back to her “old self” by trying to help and protect Josie from being bulled. Lizzie successfully persuades everyone to choose her, but is soon reminded by Alyssa that SHE is the one MG chose to pick the game.

Meanwhile, Alaric is desperately trying to figure out why Hope isn’t waking up and figuring out why Landon isn’t either (supposedly, Landon is dead) The necromancer appears at the school with Landon as basically a ghost that only Rafael can apparently see (perhaps because they were both dead.). It takes a while for Rafael to convince Landon (a really long time) to return to his body, but the sight of Hope not waking up is enough to convince him to do so. Alaric tries to force the necromancer to tell him what he (the necromancer) did to Hope, but the necromancer says he doesn’t even know.

During field day, the students are playing tug of war over a pit of mud. Josie, being the anchor doesn’t like the idea of being the anchor because she doesn’t have any magic to use and make them win the game. Lizzie, who’s trying but unfortunately failing at helping her sister, ignores Josie when Josie tries to tell her that she put her powers away because Lizzie was pushing for her to use magic. They start playing and Lizzie’s team isn’t doing so well and they eventually lose. Josie, who had the rope tied around her waist, flies into the mud pit. In which Alyssa makes a cryptic comment about how Josie is a mud monster like Malivore. This, of course upsets Josie and she’s about to storm off. Lizzie asks why she didn’t just use her magic and Josie tells her that she doesn’t have any magic because she stored them away. Lizzie, who gets upset by this sudden news, asks Josie why she never told her, and Josie argues back that she was trying to. The twins get into a small quarrel about how Lizzie’s attempt to help is actually just making things work. Josie’s about to storm off, when all the mud suddenly gets washed away. The gang turn around to see Wade and a greenish blue woman, named Nimue, who’s apparently the lady of the lake.

Nimue tells the gang that there is a green knight coming after them because of the sword that Wade borrowed. She tries to take it from them, but the gang refuse to trust a malivore monster. By the time they’re ready to give the sword to the lady of the lake, it’s too late. The sword had forced itself into a rock and only the chosen one (or as the show puts it, the ‘worthy one’) is able to lift it and fight off the knight. The gang each try to pick it up, but nobody is managing to do so. Everyone is starting to panic because the green knight is getting closer and closer, and their one leader (Hope) is not with them. This causes them to almost lose fate.

Meanwhile, Alaric is trying to convince Hope to wake up and assumes that she’s choosing not to wake up because Landon is dead. (Which doesn’t make any sense at all, to me.)

The gang eventually try to figure out their own way to fight off the monster, “Super squad” style and unfortunately, they fail. It all leads up to Rafael arriving and he is the one who was able to pull the sword. Rafael is the worthy one. Rafael eventually destroys the knight. Nimue, tells Rafael after he tries to return the sword that it’s rightfully his. Because he is the descendant of King Arthur. Rafael is the worthy one and in all honesty, after how the show treated him, he deserves to be the worthy one.

The episode comes to a near close with Landon sitting on Hope’s bed and stroking her cheek (which is weird) and then he kisses her (Without consent. What happened to “a non consensual kiss is never the answer”?) And this magically wakes Hope up. (Which doesn’t add up)

The ending eventually has Hope and Landon snuggled up on Landon’s bed. Landon asks Hope why she didn’t wake up and Hope says she didn’t because she didn’t want to accept that Landon’s dead.

Now, that’s whack. Do you really expect your audience to buy that Hope and Landon are magically linked? Because that doesn’t add up. At all. It doesn’t add up because we last saw Hope as stone in Josie’s sub conscious. So how is it that it magically turns to that Hope refuses to wake up because Landon was dead?

Meanwhile, Alyssa is running away and is talking to Chad. Who, just as he’s about to shake Alyssa’s hand, throws up blood and dies. Chad, who was tied to the necromancer along with Raf and Alyssa, is one of the three who might die. Rafael and Alyssa could be next.

That’s all for today’s review.

Thanks for reading! Be back next week.
